Week 7 Ex. F

Issa Some Flowers! Photo Taken   Used AI to get the colours Colour 1  Seems almost like a cool dark brown hue that gives the feeling of solitude and has the impression of being very strong and solid , serving as a great background colour that provides the base that holds the entire flower arrangment together.  Colour 2 This hue resembles green mixed with brown with low value such that it is on the darker side. The hue feels very muted but the tint of green gives it a look of vitality and growth such that it fits perfectly in the flower arrangment that mainly uses dried out flowers - a pure green would have seemed too energetic and out of place. Colour 3 This hue is like a dusty pink with very low saturation. This hue is also muted . The lack of intensity in the colour gives the feeling of wanting to stand out for attention (by being pink) but at the same time, very shy . Given how it blends in with hues 1 and 2 yet slightly different, it seems to align with the mo...

Week 6 Ex. E

Legibility or Aesthetic? The typographic representation uses serif type for both the title and the body. The title and body use the same typeface and are diffierentiated only by the size of the font.  Analysis The title is attention-grabbing based on the large font size and typeface of outlining the characters. The off-putting part of this typographic design is the body. While the use of the typeface and font size is impactful for the title, it fails otherwise for the body. The body becomes hard to read because the characters blend in with the white space of the background. The only way to make out the character is with the black outline that when looked at first glance, seems like a bunch of clumped together lines. The kerning of the characters does not help in making it easier to tell apart leter from letter. As such, it takes more cognitive effort to read the body than the title despite using the same typeface.  Furthermore, the body is centre-aligned. Without a boundary li...

Week 5 Ex. D

All about Domo - it's a domologue! #1 This is a side angle shot of the character. It gives the photograph a more stoic feeling as we cannot see Domo's face. Domo's body is aligned with the vertical lines of the table leg and the books. This is intended to give Domo a strong and respectful stance despite his small physicality in only being able to occupy the central row. I feel that the audience would perceive Domo to be a strong individual. #2 This was a frontal shot with Domo placed at the bottom left lower thirds. Our eyes are immediately guided to look at Domo by where he is framed in the photo following the rule of thirds. This is aided by the colour palette in which his red mouth draws attention as it is the only colour with a strong hue that is separate from the browns and whites in the photo.   #3 While maintaining Domo in the same bottom left lower thirds, I attempted a wider bird-eye angle. It was quite surprising in how small the subject becomes in a wider shot...

Week 4 Ex. C

Them Signs Though... Heinz is a ketchup brand. As this is an advertisement for its' ketchup bottle product, it is likely that the intended message is to appeal for viewers to purchase the product. When looking to see what brand of ketchup to buy, the freshness and tomato flavour are likely to be high crtierias for viewers. As such, this ad probably employs a suggestive pragmatic because the ad design suggests that Heinz Ketchup bottles are packed full with tomatoes and therefore are very flavourful. Thus, motivating viewers to purchase their ketchup.  Heinz is able to drive this message because of the signifiers in the ad - the sliced tomatoes stacked in the shape of a ketchup bottle, the green stem at the top, and its brand logo sticker.  The first two signifiers work together to sell the product. The first signifier signifies an image of the ketchup bottle that is chocked full with tomatoes, seeing that it is literally made out of tomatoes. In fact, the use of a red bac...
